Our Mission: To preserve and propagate the profound traditions of Bharatanatyam and Indian art forms by providing disciplined, holistic training that nurtures technical skill (Kala), artistic expression (Bhaava), and spiritual discipline (Sadhana) in a respectful and supportive environment.
Part 1: General Rules for All Students Respect & Etiquette (Vinaya): The academy is a space for learning and creativity. Students must show utmost respect to the Gurus (Teachers), staff, fellow students, and the space itself. Traditional greetings (like "Namaskaram") are encouraged upon entering the academy and when addressing Gurus. Bullying, negative talk, or disruptive behavior is strictly prohibited.
Punctuality & Attendance (Niyamita): Punctuality is a form of discipline. Arrive 10 minutes before class to settle your mind and prepare. Consistent attendance is crucial for progress, especially in dance where the curriculum is sequential. Inform the administration in advance of any planned absence.
Academy Premises: Maintain silence in the corridors, especially when classes are in session. No outside shoes inside the dance or art studios. Treat all property—instruments (e.g., mridangam), art supplies, furniture—with care. Any damage must be reported immediately.
Fees & Payments: Tuition fees are payable at the end of each month and must be cleared within the first week of the following month/term. Fees are not refundable or transferable for missed classes. Make-up classes may be offered subject to the teacher's availability.
Part 2: Specific Rules for Bharatanatyam Students Dress Code (Veshbhusha): Practice Attire: Traditional, well-fitted practice wear (salwar/kameez or churidar. i.e. white Kurta pajama and Red Churni) is mandatory. Hair must be tied in a neat bun (for all genders) to facilitate proper head movement. No loose hair. Jewellery: For safety and authenticity, no modern jewellery is allowed during practice. Only traditional jewellery (e.g., jhumkas, bangles) may be worn for rehearsals or performances. Footwear: Practice should be done barefoot. Do not wear dance shoes without explicit instruction.
Classroom Discipline: Students must perform a brief Namaskaram to the Guru and the Earth (Bhoomi Pranam) before starting and after ending practice. Pay absolute attention to the Guru's instructions. The learning process involves keen observation and listening. Practice is the key to perfection (Riyaz). Students are expected to practice regularly at home. Performance &
Arangetram: Participation in annual day functions is encouraged as part of holistic learning. Specific rules and commitments for students preparing for their Arangetram (graduation solo debut) will be outlined in a separate agreement, covering intensive practice schedules, financial commitments for musicians and costumes, and code of conduct.
Care of Items: Students are responsible for their own items like ankle bells (salangai). They should be worn only in class and stored properly. Salangai (ghungroo) should be treated with respect.
Part 3: Specific Rules for Art & Drawing StudentsDress Code: Wear clothes that you don't mind getting stained. An apron or old shirt is highly recommended. Ensure your hands are clean before handling paper, especially for fine artwork.
Studio Etiquette: Cleanliness is paramount. Students must clean their workspace (easels, tables, palettes, brushes) after every session. Brushes must be washed thoroughly with water and stored bristle-up. Do not waste paper, paints, clay, or any other material.
Respect for Art: Respect your own artwork and that of others. Negative criticism of another student's work is not allowed. Constructive feedback can be given only if encouraged by the teacher. Tools and community supplies must be shared fairly and handled with care.
Portfolio: Students are encouraged to maintain a portfolio of their work to track their progress over time.
Part 4: For Parents & GuardiansCommunication: Please communicate directly with the administration for queries regarding fees, schedules, events and other purpose after or before class. Avoid discussing these with the Gurus during class time. For feedback on a child's progress, please schedule a meeting with the teacher through the admin.
Observation Policy: To maintain focus, parents are not allowed to sit inside classrooms during regular sessions. Regular class videos and updates will be shared via WhatsApp to help parents monitor and appreciate their child’s progress.
Support & Encouragement: We request parents to support the traditional methods of teaching and encourage daily practice (riyaz for dance, sketching for art) at home. Students must arrive and be picked up on time. For safety reasons, children will only be handed over to their parent or legal guardian.
Health & Safety: Inform the academy of any pre-existing health conditions (asthma, joint issues, etc.) or injuries. A basic first-aid kit will be available. In case of an emergency, parents/emergency contacts will be notified immediately. The academy is not liable for lost or stolen personal belongings. Please avoid bringing valuable items.
