Smt. Diya Mazumder, a luminary in the realm of classical dance, has carved a remarkable life journey from her origins in Badarpur, Sribhumi district, Assam. The daughter of Sri Chandan Kanti Mazumder and Smt. Sabita Mazumder, Diya's academic pursuits led her to earn an English Honors degree from Assam University and a Master's in English from IGNOU.Her passion for dance ignited at the tender age of six, beginning with Bharatanatyam and Rabindra Nritya under Guru Smt. Jaya Acharjee Chakraborty. By ten, she was refining her skills at Sankar Dev Kala Mandir under Guru Smt. Laxmi Priya Choudhury, a distinguished dancer from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. Diya's prodigious talent was acknowledged when, at sixteen, she acchieved the Sangeet Ratna Award from the Bangiya Sangeet Parishad, West Bengal.
Diya embarked on her professional journey as a guru, teacher, dancer, and choreographer at fifteen in her hometown. Her early competitive spirit shone through as she clinched first position in both classical and folk categories at the Cachar District Level Dance Competition. She also secured first place in the Bhupendra Sangeet & Nritya Competition at the NF Railway Institute in Sribhumi District, among many other accolades.
In her personal life, Diya found a steadfast companion in Shri Madhab Bhattacharjee, a Finance and Accounts Manager at AIMT. Their marriage, built on mutual respect and encouragement, fostered a harmonious balance between her artistic endeavors and family life. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Maahi Bhattacharjee, who, echoing her mother's passion, began her Bharatanatyam training under Guro and Mother Diya at the age of four. Maahi has since achieved significant success in dance competitions across Assam, culminating in her proudest moment in 2025, receiving the Best Performance Award in the Classical Dance category at the 13th National Dance Competition in Guwahati.
In 2018, Diya relocated to Guwahati, and in 2021, she fulfilled a long-held dream by founding Nrityashree, a Dance and Fine Art Academy situated in Dharapur, near the New Airport Road. The name Nrityashree carries deep meaning. "Nritya" means dance (in Sanskrit), and "Shree" is a title of respect, beauty, or auspiciousness. What began as a small classroom with four students has blossomed into a vibrant institution, nurturing over 70 learners and shaping them into accomplished artists. Nrityashree stands as a beacon for promoting the timeless traditions of Indian classical dance and art affiliated to Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh alongwith Suro Bharati Sangeet Kala Kendra, West Bengal.
Diya is a proud member of ABHAI (Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India), a community of renowned classical dancers across the nation.
