Nrityashree Dance Academy
"Nritya" means dance (in Sanskrit), and "Shree" is a title of respect, beauty, or auspiciousness.
A Cultural Sanctuary for Dance, Art, and Expression in Assam Founded in 2021 in the serene locality of Dharapur, near Azara, Guwahati, Nrityashree Dance Academy is more than just a training center — it is a vibrant space where tradition and creativity coexist. Rooted in a deep love for India’s classical and cultural art forms, the academy is devoted to preserving our nation’s artistic heritage while nurturing new generations of dancers and artists. At Nrityashree, every movement, every stroke, and every performance tells a story — one that connects the past with the present, tradition with innovation.
🌺 Our Vision: We envision a world where traditional Indian art forms thrive alongside contemporary expressions, inspiring individuals to find their voice through rhythm, color, and creativity. Our mission is to build a nurturing and inclusive environment where students of all ages and backgrounds can discover their inner artist. Through structured training, community involvement, and performance opportunities, Nrityashree aims to develop not just technically skilled individuals, but culturally grounded and confident souls ready to carry forward the legacy of our rich artistic traditions.
💃 Dance Programs at Nrityashree: We offer a diverse selection of dance styles that reflect the incredible breadth of Indian culture. Every class is led by experienced instructors who are passionate about teaching not just the movements, but also the deep cultural narratives that dance expresses.
🩰 Bharatanatyam: Often referred to as the “temple dance,” Bharatanatyam is the heart and soul of our academy. Originating in Tamil Nadu, this classical dance form is a blend of intricate footwork, graceful expressions, and profound storytelling.
Students at Nrityashree are trained in the traditional Margam repertoire — from Alarippu to Padams — while also learning about Natyashastra, the ancient text on performing arts. Emphasis is placed on bhava (emotion), rasa (essence), and tala (rhythm), developing a holistic understanding of this revered art.
🌾 Folk Dance: India’s folk dances are a celebration of everyday life, community spirit, and regional identity. At Nrityashree, we introduce students to some of specific folk dances such as Garba, Santhal Dance, Baul Dance, etc. bringing alive the traditions of various Indian states. These sessions emphasize group coordination, liveliness, and authenticity, allowing students to embody the joy and spontaneity of rural India.
🎶 Rabindra Nritya: Rooted in the poetic universe of Rabindranath Tagore, Rabindra Nritya is an expressive, fluid dance form influenced by classical, folk, and global styles.
Our academy offers specialized training in this dance, focusing on graceful movements, lyrical interpretations, and emotional storytelling, especially during events like Rabindra Jayanti and cultural evenings.
💃 Modern & Contemporary Dance: To complement our classical foundation, we offer modern and contemporary dance training. Students explore themes, concepts, and emotions through movement in a free and expressive format.
This style encourages individual creativity, body awareness, and improvisation, making it ideal for students who wish to blend tradition with modern rhythm.
🌸 Bihu Dance: A true reflection of Assam’s heart and heritage, Bihu is more than a dance — it's a celebration of nature, love, and prosperity.
Our Bihu classes bring students closer to their Assamese roots, with attention to traditional steps, music, dress, and the festive spirit that defines this joyful form.
🎨 Visual Art Programs: Dance may be movement, but art is stillness in expression. Our academy nurtures young artists through structured programs in Drawing, Painting, and Fine Art.
🖌️ Drawing & Painting: Students begin with foundational drawing skills like line work, shading, perspective, and composition, progressing to watercolor, charcoal, pastels, and acrylic painting. Each session balances technical skill with creative exploration.
🧑🎨 Fine Art Programs: Our fine art curriculum includes advanced practices such as canvas work, mixed media, thematic projects, and art installation basics.
We encourage participation in art competitions, local exhibitions, and community projects, helping students gain exposure and confidence.
🌈 Art for Self-Expression: Art is also a therapeutic space. Through guided expressive sessions, students learn to channel their emotions and ideas into visual form — building self-confidence, patience, and inner peace.
