



Prof.
C.V. Chandrasekhar and Jaya Chandrasekhar are among the best known dancing couples
of Bharata Natyam in India. They have dedicated their life to the teaching and
performing of dance for over five decades. After serving at the University of
Baroda, as Head of the Department of Dance and Dean of Faculty of Performing
Arts, Prof. Chandrasekhar now based in Chennai, India, is the most sought after
Guru among senior dancers in the field. Scholar, dancer, composer, choreographer,
gifted teacher and an exemplary human being, Professor C.V.Chandrasekhar, along
with his wife Jaya, has shared generously of his wealth of knowledge and life’s
experiences with students and teachers all over the world. Professor C.V. Chandrasekhar
has composed a number of dance ballets during the course of his illustrious
career in both Carnatic and North Indian styles of music. He composed and choreographed
Pancha Maha Bhootham in 1992. Professor C.V. Chandrasekar is a recipient of
the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Bharatanatyam and was recognized for his
musical contributions by Narada Gana Sabha, a prestigious institution dedicated
to the propagation of music. He was given the Nada Brahmam Award (2003-2004)
traditionally awarded to people who are primarily musicians. In 2004, Prof.
Chandrasekhar received the title Nrithya Rathnakara bestowed by Bhairavi Fine
Arts Society, Cleveland USA.
