C.V.Chandrasekhar's choreographic works are set apart by an elegance evident
in the dance as well as music. a colossus in the arena of classical dance. He
has said in th epast that his choreographic works are his mainstay. They are
based on abstract themes that are given a concrete presentation via the dance
medium. Being a student of science, he also brings a certain dimension to the
interweaving of art and science- especially evident in the themesand in the
sculpting of space. Aarohana is based on Darwin's theory of evolution,
which is bears some parallels to our Dasavathaara myth. Panchamaha
bhootam is draws on the five elements in nature. The format is classical
Bharatanatyam but the themes are contemporary. C.V. Chandrasekhar's choreographic
works have been performed all over the world by his students as well as by other
dancers. He has shared generously of his vast knowledge- teaching, sharing choreography,
creating special works .
C.V. Chandrasekhar is also a gifted composer. His music compositions are an
intrinsic part of the solo and ensemble work created by him.
Major Choreographic Works
Ritu Samharam: Portrays the essence of nature through the changing seasons.
Selected verses from Kalidasa's poetic work Bhoomija: The Ramayana unfolds
through the eyes of Seeta
Meghadutam: The Cloud Messenger draws on the lyricism of Kalidasa's poetry
Aparijita: The Unvanquished- describes the manifestations of Sakti, the
feminine energy.
Aarohanam: Inspired by the theory of Creation.
Panchamahabhootam: The Five Great Elements, is a dance choreographed
using the movement vocabulary of Bharatanatyam wherein dancers explore the five
elements of nature- earth, air, fire, water and sky (cosmos).
Kreeda: A lively representation of universally known games through the
medium of Bharatanatyam 'pandattam, pandi, kathadi...'. Mellifluous music brings
an additional dimension to the choreography.
